What Methods Do We Use For Banner Printing

At Envision we offer a wide range of banner materials, from different levels of thickness, the ability for the banner to be block out blackback fabric, backlit or front-lit, and the finish feel and texture. It all comes down to what works best in situ, and the printing method that suits the material and situation, the main two forms of banner printing we produce are:

UV Printing

UV Printing is short for Ultra Violet Printing and uses the technique of using UV curing ink that goes onto the substrate. The process involves the ink being printed onto the material with a UV light following behind which activates the colours and creates the reaction called polymerisation. Making vibrant banners ready to use as soon as the printer has finished.

Dye Sublimation

Dye sublimation involves printing ink into the actual fabrics of the material. Unlike UV printing, the process of printing is quicker however the roll is put through a press machine at 180 degrees to activate the ink and transfers the dye into the substrate. This allows us to produce large-format printing and banners to be created within just a few hours!

Banner Print Attachment Options

Depending on the location and placement of your banner, there are several different finishes we can apply to our banners to give you the easiest installation possible. The best banner finishes are those with a high level of tension, creating no sag or movement from wind or people touching it.

Hemming is used to prevent the material from fraying and produce a better location for eyelets or other application methods to be added to and helps banners places in exposed or high-traffic locations.

One of the most common uses for banners hanging are eyelets, which are the circles you see around the edge of a banner, traditionally every half or full meter length depending on the banner, allowing for simple application with zip ties, leaving an easy install and deinstall option.

Velcro is an extremely easy way for you to attach to pretty much any surface. Simply need the two different types of Velcro, hook (the rough side) and loop (the soft side), both with self-adhesive backs meaning you can place a banner pretty much anywhere and create tension.

Keder is another way of fixating banners, but can also just be created for the finished edge effect. It consists of adding two components, usually the material and a spline, and bonding together, then normally slotted into a Keder rail, creating a similar effect to pockets.

Pockets are the process of leaving a specific gap at the end of the banner that creates a space for the installation of a pole to be fed through and hanging the banner from structures like a flag pole or cafe banner. An additional pocket can be added at another side to add tension.

Joints are created on artworks that go across the width capability of a printer, meaning that banners can become bigger and wider than what a traditional banner size. Simply adding a joint across two pieces of material to continue artwork on

Adding a silicon edge on the back of the blackback fabric banner print allows for the installation of banners into freestanding frames that use the TFS (Tension Fabric System). The process of installation consists of pushing the silicon into the framework to create an extremely tight, drum-like finish.
